Larry Bird was born on December 7th, 1956 in West Baden, Indiana. He was the youngest of four children. Because of the adjacent town it was named French Lick, Larry got his nick name "Hick from French Lick." Larry went through a hard childhood, after his parents got divorced, his dad committed suicide. Despite Larry's childhood he look at basketball for salvation. During high school when he went out for the basketball team and made the B team (Bird 4), that a fact about Larry Bird that people don't know they would think that he would be good at basketball from the start. Larry was one of the best players in the region while he was still in high school. Larry's coach was Jim Jones, a coach that drilled the basketball fundamentals into his head. He taught him the basic maneuver, he showed him how to utilize his left and right, and he showed him a dribbling skills. He became Springs Valley High School's star and graduated as the all time leading scorer. During his senior year, he averaged 30.6 points, forty assists, and twenty rebounds per game.
Later on in life Larry got drafted to the Boston Celtics in 1978, he started as a small forward and power forward for thirteen seasons he was one of the NBA's front court inspiring people that also included Robert Parish and forward Kevin McHale. Bird was a twelve time NBA All-Star and was named the league's MVP (Most Valuable Player) three times. He played his entire professional career for Boston, and won three championships and two NBA Finals MVP awards. Due to his chronic back problems, he retired as a player in 1992. He became a member of the Dream Team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Bird got voted the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1996 and it included the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998. Next Bird served as the head coach of the Indiana Pacers from 1997 to 2000. In 2003, he took the role of president for the Indiana Pacer until he retired in 2012. After a year past from being in that position, he announced that he was going to return to the Pacers as president of basketball operations in 2013. In addition to being a part of the 50-40-90 Club, he is the only person on the NBA in history to get MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.
